Build an Incredible HTML5 App: $7000 Competition

I really like the push everyone (not just Apple) is trying to make towards HTML5 and CSS3. We’ve been stuck building things the same way for so long, and people are ready for something new, if they know that or not. Nettuts.com is having a competition to build a great HTML5 app, that is sure [...]

Multiple Background Images in CSS3

Out of all of the amazing things CSS3 can do, I’m probably most excited about its Multiple Background Image capabilities. I mean, how many times have you came across the need for something like this? We usually get around it by using multiple containers, making things messy and sometimes confusing.
Here is a great article CSS3 [...]

Friday 30 July 2010

Knowing that swimming is probably my weakest area, I was hoping to accomplish a good long swim before the week’s end.  Yesterday morning, I decided to do just that.  I arrived at the gym around 5:30am and knocked out 30 slow laps. I really worked on taking a breath after every 4th stroke. I took [...]

CSS3 Versus Flash

We’re seeing a very large push on the acceptance of technologies such as HTML5 and CSS3, and rightfully so, they offer things that are leaps and bounds above what we’ve settled with for so many years now. Pioneering companies like Apple, are throwing their weight  around and marketing this stuff like hot cakes, hoping the [...]

One Cool Thing a Day #7 : Nano Guitar

From what I gather, this was posted like 13 years ago. I stumbled upon it today and thought it was too cool to pass up. The micro guitar is made out of nano sized micro electromechanical devices and is the size of a single cell. I bet if they created a shrink ray, Yngwie Malmsteen [...]

Wednesday 28 July 2010

My toddler (almost 3) kept us up last night. For some reason he was extremely wired and just couldn’t fall asleep. I was supposed to swim today and possibly ride the bike, but I decided to stay in bed and get some much needed shut eye. Though I did do a pretty good core workout [...]

One Cool Thing a Day #6 : Umbrella Samurai

I don’t own an umbrella or a samurai sword, but I think this invention is cool enough to satisfy both needs. It’s like Marry Poppins meets the Last Samurai.

Tuesday 27 July 2010

Today I met with the local running club to run the Tuesday track session. I haven’t ran intervals in a few weeks. I’ve been trying to stick to our half ironman training schedule, so our interval runs have been few and far between. We ran 1.5mi warm up to the track, then did 4 x [...]

One Cool Thing a Day #5 : Typorganism - ASCII-O-Matic

Pretty nifty little tool here which creates an ASCII version of an uploaded image. It can switch between black and white and color, and typography and squares. The uploaded image must be 60 x 50 pixels. I chose to upload a picture of my wife and toddler.
